About this event
Assembly Bill 2022 (Assemblymember Jeff Gonzalez) is up for hearing before the Senate Appropriations Committee on Monday, August 3, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. in Room 2200 at 1021 O Street, Sacramento.
WHAT AB 2022 DOES
AB 2022 creates a new property tax exemption for 100% disabled veteran homeowners in California — exempting 50% of the full value of a qualifying veteran's primary residence from property tax. Households earning $83,474 or less get a 100% exemption. The exemption also extends to unmarried surviving spouses and would run through January 1, 2032.
WHY THIS HEARING MATTERS
Senate Appropriations is the LAST committee stop before AB 2022 heads to the Senate Floor for a full vote. If it passes here, it moves to the floor; if it's held on suspense, it dies for the year. This is the critical moment for California's 100% disabled veterans.
⚠️ HEADS UP ON TIMING
Appropriations hearings run a long agenda of bills heard in order. The 10 a.m. start is when the committee gavels in — AB 2022 will be called sometime during the hearing, not necessarily at 10:00 sharp. Plan to arrive early, bring water, and be prepared to wait. Public testimony is typically limited to name, organization, and position (support/oppose).
