CalVet Home Loans is California's own home loan program for veterans and war fighters. It can help you buy a home, a farm or a mobile home with low or no down payment options and built-in disaster coverage.
Who may qualify
- Veterans with a discharge other than dishonorable who served on active duty.
- War fighters currently serving on active duty.
- Members of the California National Guard or U.S. military reserves who meet service requirements.
- The home must be in California and be your main residence.
How to apply
- 1
Check your eligibility
Gather your DD-214, or a statement of service if you are still serving, and confirm eligibility with CalVet Home Loans.
- 2
Get prequalified
Apply online with CalVet or through a CalVet-approved lender to learn how much home you can buy and which loan option fits.
- 3
Pick your home and make an offer
Work with a real estate agent. Tell them you are using a CalVet loan so the offer and timeline are set up correctly.
- 4
Close on your home
CalVet reviews the property and completes the loan. Coverage for fire, flood and earthquake disasters is included in the program.
Good to know
- CalVet can be paired with your VA loan guaranty for little or no money down.
- CalVet loans include disaster coverage that many regular mortgages do not.
- First-time buyer status is not required.
