House panel advances $1.1T defense bill that would rename Pentagon the 'Department of War'

The House Appropriations Committee advanced its $1.1 trillion fiscal 2027 defense spending bill on a 34-27 party-line vote, including a provision to rename the Defense Department as the Department of War. The bill blocks DEI funding, abortion travel reimbursement, and gender-affirming care for service members.
